The first day after my 3 day cleanse, I woke up and went on to my normal day. Made a cup of coffee, prepared some oatmeal and turned on Jerry Springer. However, the second I took a sip of that coffee it went through me faster than a chick going down a waterslide covered in baby oil! Oops! I guess no coffee for me for the next few days.....
My cravings were gone. I didn't want my usual go tos: red wine, ice cream, chocolate, pasta, etc. I wanted healthy things like hot lemon water, salads, smoothies, fruit. It was BIZARRE! After a measly 3 days on this cleanse and I had been cured from all that was wrong in my diet?!?! Amazing! Dr. Oz, you're a hero! I even tried to have a glass of wine and I immediately got a tummy ache. I felt like such a loser because I pulled my server over and ordered a cup of hot lemon water....so not something I used to do!
My second day after the cleanse I slept for almost 12 hours! And I woke up sick...again! Soar throat and a fever!?! My suggestions to anyone coming off of a cleanse is to do it slowly and steadily. Putting SOME of your old habits into the memory bank and bringing some of the healthier ones back into your usual routine.
Best of luck to everyone who wants to pop their cleanse cherry too! It's worth it!
Holy sh*t, I officially survived a full 3 day cleanse without cheating!!!! I am so proud of myself and can now scream and shout that I've done a cleanse! I did the Dr. Oz 3 day Detox Cleanse. I feel like there is a whole new crowd of people I can fit in with now. You know those people at parties who discuss what recipes and tricks they do for their cleanses? I'm now one of them! Wahoo! Anyways, getting back to the real reasons I did the cleanse and whether or not my intentions were fulfilled.
Why did I want to do a cleanse?
Yes, I was hung-over when I made the decision to do the cleanse, and yes, I did want to lose the 7 pounds I gained over the holidays, but the real reason behind the cleanse is that I didn't feel like myself anymore. I felt blotted, puffy and unhealthy.
The sh*t I hated during the cleanse?
The first day was probably the hardest. Not being able to eat whole foods, I stuck to smoothies and tea. The smoothies, although having a lot of ingredients in them, were somewhat tasteless. Coming from a diet with flavours like pepper, salt, spices, etc... Needless to say, my taste buds were a little disappointed.
Night time used to be my snacking time (as I'm sure it is for many of us), so obviously it was the hardest part of the day. Instead, I used the evenings to workout, craft, read, write on the computer... anything but sitting in front of the TV with no food in my hands. It definitely didn't help that my boyfriend was eating snacks like popcorn in front of me ... That smell takes over the house!
I have never tested my self control like this before. Physically I have, but I think mentally is harder. Your brain plays tricks on you....and it can be just straight up mean sometimes!
The beauty of the cleanse and why I will do it again and again?
My hydration. I have never been so hydrated before. My pee was crystal clear! And I peed almost every hour on the hour! I barely drank any water either because my body wasn't craving it. It was from all the water in the cucumber, celery and berries, etc that I was cramming into that blender and suckin' down! My skin looked better and my hair was even shinier!
My spirit. You are what you eat, right? That’s what they always say. I felt like the healthiest person alive! Full of energy, full of clear thoughts: the world was my oyster! All the ladies in my classes were noticing too! It was awesome! Plus my flu that I had at the start of the cleanse VANISHED!
Yes, I did lose about 5 pounds. BUT, it was mostly water weight and I am sure it will come back in the next 3 days to come. I’m still working my butt off at the gym to tone up that fat! The bonus is that I feel less bloated: my jeans are looser and my skin is tighter!
This may come as a surprise to some of you, but I am a virgin. A cleanse virgin. Yup! I know, pretty shocking! So many of my friends, in and out of the industry, have done a detox, cleanse, or fast so I have decided to re-start my body with a short and sweet cleanse by Dr. Oz. God, I love this man! Who doesn't, right? Anywhoo, what inspired me was my dear friend Kaitlin Stephens, Grounded Nutritionist. She is an incredible nutritionist and one hell of a champ. She did a 3 day juice cleanse! Now that is just a little bit too extreme for me, so I've decided to do a cleanse that Dr. Oz created that includes a little more substance like smoothies! Why did I decide to do this? Well, at the time I was hung-over, feeling like poop and still hadn't lost the 7 pounds I put on over the holiday season! Ugh! I'll tell you about the cleanse once I start it, but I just got really excited about it so I decided to share it with you! Please give me your feedback about your cleanse experiences!
All you need is $16/day & a blender!

Have you ever been working out and all of a sudden a massive garlic burp comes along and ruins your mo-jo? Don't tell me I'm alone on this one. See below for the do's and don'ts of pre-workout nutrition. I'd like to thank Nella Maier from Steve Nash Fitness World who created this document. If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't have been able to share it with you!

Happy New Year everyone! Have you already failed on your New Year’s resolution? Ha ha ha, typical!
My New Year’s resolution was to drink more water. Now as simple as that may seem, it proved more difficult in the months leading up to Christmas. I thought I would get a head start to the New Year by starting my resolution in November. I failed 3 times! How could simply filling up a glass of water, raising it to my mouth and drinking it be so gosh darn hard??? I went out to learn some tips.
Tips to getting more H2O in your bod:
1. Start your day with a glass of water. If you also want to start your metabolism, try adding half a lemon to it. I bought a wooden lemon reamer from Ming Wo for $3.95. A tool like this helps get all the lemon juice out without getting it all over your hands and stinging your cuticles.
2. Finish lunch and dinner off with a cup of hot water or herbal tea. There are so many benefits of this habit. To name a few (besides adding another 2 glasses of water to your day):
3. Keep water at arm’s reach: at work, in your car, at the gym, even when you’re out enjoying a few alcoholic beverages. If it’s right there in your face, you're more likely to pick it up and drink it!
4. Straws!!!! Not only are they fun colors, shapes and bendable, they serve a great purpose! As adults I think we only see straws as things that go in slurpees, vodka sodas, pops and milk shakes. But don’t these things have one thing in common?? They get that liquid into your body ASAP!!! Why aren't we doing this with water? I'm sure you've always seen them in the pop and juice aisle at the grocery store, so now you have an excuse to buy them!
5. Lube up your body! We all know that when things are dry and rusty they don’t perform as well they should, right? Give your body the lube it needs and see the results within 24 hours. Your skin, your hair, your performance, your pee, etc. I noticed that my constant headache went away (and to think I used to blame that on my poor boyfriend).
I hope these tips will help you increase your water intake. Please feel free to leave comments to add to this blog. I always appreciate your opinions!
Feeling weak, anxious and unconnected to my body lead me to start exercising. I joined a dance class once a week and after every dance class I had a glow about me, and it wasn't just from the sweat that I built up in class, it was something more. I realized it was the endorphins that were being produced from the physical activity I was doing. Join me and start moving and feel the difference. Read my blog to get motivation, try the exercises I've posted, contact me for personal training, bootcamps, workout cards or just go for a walk. Any activity is good activity.
