Holy sh*t, I officially survived a full 3 day cleanse without cheating!!!! I am so proud of myself and can now scream and shout that I've done a cleanse! I did the Dr. Oz 3 day Detox Cleanse. I feel like there is a whole new crowd of people I can fit in with now. You know those people at parties who discuss what recipes and tricks they do for their cleanses? I'm now one of them! Wahoo! Anyways, getting back to the real reasons I did the cleanse and whether or not my intentions were fulfilled.
Why did I want to do a cleanse?
Yes, I was hung-over when I made the decision to do the cleanse, and yes, I did want to lose the 7 pounds I gained over the holidays, but the real reason behind the cleanse is that I didn't feel like myself anymore. I felt blotted, puffy and unhealthy.
The sh*t I hated during the cleanse?
The first day was probably the hardest. Not being able to eat whole foods, I stuck to smoothies and tea. The smoothies, although having a lot of ingredients in them, were somewhat tasteless. Coming from a diet with flavours like pepper, salt, spices, etc... Needless to say, my taste buds were a little disappointed.
Night time used to be my snacking time (as I'm sure it is for many of us), so obviously it was the hardest part of the day. Instead, I used the evenings to workout, craft, read, write on the computer... anything but sitting in front of the TV with no food in my hands. It definitely didn't help that my boyfriend was eating snacks like popcorn in front of me ... That smell takes over the house!
I have never tested my self control like this before. Physically I have, but I think mentally is harder. Your brain plays tricks on you....and it can be just straight up mean sometimes!
The beauty of the cleanse and why I will do it again and again?
My hydration. I have never been so hydrated before. My pee was crystal clear! And I peed almost every hour on the hour! I barely drank any water either because my body wasn't craving it. It was from all the water in the cucumber, celery and berries, etc that I was cramming into that blender and suckin' down! My skin looked better and my hair was even shinier!
My spirit. You are what you eat, right? That’s what they always say. I felt like the healthiest person alive! Full of energy, full of clear thoughts: the world was my oyster! All the ladies in my classes were noticing too! It was awesome! Plus my flu that I had at the start of the cleanse VANISHED!
Yes, I did lose about 5 pounds. BUT, it was mostly water weight and I am sure it will come back in the next 3 days to come. I’m still working my butt off at the gym to tone up that fat! The bonus is that I feel less bloated: my jeans are looser and my skin is tighter!
Feeling weak, anxious and unconnected to my body lead me to start exercising. I joined a dance class once a week and after every dance class I had a glow about me, and it wasn't just from the sweat that I built up in class, it was something more. I realized it was the endorphins that were being produced from the physical activity I was doing. Join me and start moving and feel the difference.
